Many of you know that I am enrolled in a Psychedelic Therapies & Research program where I am learning with other RN's, NP’s, MD's, Therapists & Chaplains. I’ve been called to this work as it’s a promising treatment for a variety of conditions such as PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Prolong Grief, and many more.
For this short post, I’d like to focus on Ketamine specifically.
According to NIH (The National Institutes of Health): 1/3rd of the population suffering from depression DO NOT respond to the typical anti-depressant prescription medications. AKA: on-going sadness, little to no sleep or appetite, fatigue, anxiety/anger feeling unworthy, or thoughts of ending their life..
& this is where Ketamine can come in to support that population that is suffering. "Ketamine continues to be an excellent treatment option for major depression, with over 70 percent of patients seeing a significant reduction in negative symptoms with three infusions"
Below is a direct quote from a Ketamine Nurse working at South Omaha Medical in Nebraska who has witnessed deep transformation.
It’s often that I hear stories + quotes such as the one in this post, but no matter how many I read, I still get emotional. Not only is it an inspiration that I will soon be able to help others struggling such as this Ketamine Nurse, but most importantly it continues to give me HOPE.
Hope for Humanity.
Our communities are hurting. Our people are desperate for healing.
This is a calling to all the nurses, doctors, medicine women, therapists..
It’s time to stop questioning.. second guessing. And start showing up. Playing FULL OUT. Together.
Each & every single one of us.
Again….our communities are longing for healing.
It's a disservice to not answer the call.
To end this note, I'd like to share a quote directly from a MDMA participant with PTSD
“Self healing comes from within. It’s like this Time Machine where you can go into these memories and give yourself all the wisdom you wish you had”
As María Sabina says.. “You are the Medicine”
