Launching RAW.
The inspiration behind the name of my Holistic Coaching & Consulting practice.
As a sentimental and nostalgic person, I naturally put a lot of thought and intention into everything.
My business name was no different. I never considered entrepreneurship until last year when I realized I could use my nursing experience, and personal testimony to help others avoid hospitalization through holistic preventative care.
So what inspired me to create RAW- Remembering Ancestral Wisdom?
I think about my ancestral calling to hunt and provide meat for my family & I.
I think about my wonderful father who despite his own trauma, showed me an abundance of love.
I think about the generations of my ancestors when I look deeply at the palm of my hands.
I think about my natural brown hair, sorrowful that I hid it with bleach for 10+ years.
I think about how I was called to be the pivot in my family to break generational curses and heal trauma that was passed down.
I think about how many people are suffering from physical, mental, and emotional issues due to unresolved trauma.
But most of all.. I think about my abuela Ma Luz, a woman of great wisdom.
She passed when she was 105 -a month short from turning 106. A mother of 12 children and lived in a small rural town in Guanajuato, Mexico. I remember my annual visits involved taking the local bus to the mercado to buy fresh produce, meat, and diary sourced & sold by the community. I recall watching her sip on tequila or enjoying a nice cold beer on her patio that was surrounded by flowers and herbs. She would sit silently on a stool for hours, thinking, reflecting, and observing, a practice that I didn't understand until now. As a young girl I used to complain to my mom that the days were always so long and “boring”.
Yet here I am.
Seeking the same soft, slow, intentional lifestyle that my grandmother had.
You see we live in a consumer society that is conditioned to want more, more…and more. When in reality, less is more.
My grandmother didn't have the latest biohacking gadgets like red light therapy, yet she managed to live significantly longer than the average American, currently at 77 years old.
Working from 9 to 5 and climbing the corporate ladder are not the only paths to success.
You don't need to keep up with the latest wellness trend to be considered "healthy".
Upgrading to a bigger house or car won't necessarily bring you happiness.
Technology is a powerful tool when used correctly but we should avoid spending our lives comparing ourselves online while our actual lives pass us by.
Having these items, tools, or even adopting a certain lifestyle is not wrong. I enjoy these as well. However, my point is that life doesn't need to be overly complicated.
Listen to your body. Hydrate. Don’t be afraid of the Sun. Eat real food. Make an effort to get to know your neighbors. Learn basic life skills like changing a tire or making bread from scratch. Engage your parents in conversations about your family lineage and learn about your ancestors.
We can still reconnect the way we were meant to. Rediscover how to care for the earth, and each other along the way.
Our ancestors maintained their fitness through physical labor like working on the farm, chopping wood, and building homes which kept them fit. Now the norm is relying on the convenience of a vehicle to take us a couple blocks away and lead sedentary lifestyles, sitting for eight hours a day or more.
Our ancestors consumed real whole foods, grown on their farm or traded by their neighbors. The idea of eating Ultra-processed foods filled with additives would be foreign to them.
Our ancestors lived closely with nature and often used herbal remedies when one fell sick, yet now it’s common to rely on quick prescriptions from doctors, rarely giving our bodies the chance to heal using what nature provides.
Our ancestors actually knew their neighbors, offering a hand of support when times got hard. Now, we live in a bubble; we've become close-minded, self-centered, and selfish.
The United States spends more on health care than any other country but yet has the highest rate of people with multiple chronic diseases. This is due to poor lifestyle habits, overburden of stress, and the influence of large pharmaceutical companies.
However, I can confidently say that this never ending cycle stopped with me, and it can stop with you too. In my practice, I incorporate Ancestral Wisdom to live a more holistic, simple way of living.
